Donald James Ohmie, age 64, of Gardner, Kansas, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at his residence. He was born on Wednesday, July 4, 1945, in Garnett, Kansas. He was the son of Harry E. and Laura Dell (Hollander) Ohmie. He grew up near LeRoy, Kansas, and later lived in Loveland, Colorado, the Olathe, Kansas area and settled in Gardner, where he was a resident the past ten years. Donald graduated from Loveland (Colorado) High School with the class of 1963. He worked as a carpenter in housing construction in the Kansas City metro area. Donald served as a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corp from November 10, 1965 to November 8, 1971. His tour of duty included Vietnam. On January 24, 1994, Donald was united in marriage with Gladys Pennington in Olathe, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife-Gladys Ohmie of the home Son-Jon Ziems of Colorado Stepdaughter-Betty Manspeaker & her husband, Doyle, of Ottawa, Kansas Stepdaughter-Cathy Wellborn & her husband, Bob, of Gardner, Kansas Stepdaughter-Mary Schultz of Gardner, Kansas Stepdaughter-Judy Wilson & her husband, John, of Wellsville, Kansas Stepdaughter-Rita Schultz of Wellsville, Kansas Stepdaughter-Sandra Barrett of Ottawa, Kansas Stepson-Edward Schultz & his wife, Melanie, of Olathe, Kansas Stepdaughter-Martha Villasana & her husband, Pepe, of Gardner, Kansas Sister-JoAnn Sprinkle of Colorado Sister-Laverne Lendo of Burlington, Kansas 23 Grandchildren; 29 Gt.Grandchildren; Two Gt.Gt.Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his: Parents-Harry E. and Laura Dell (Hollander) Ohmie and a Brother-Sonny Ohmie. SERVICES: Private family memorial services were held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa on Friday, November 27, 2009.
