Donald J. Callahan

Donald J. Callahan, 73, of Waverly, Kansas, formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, died at the farm he loved Friday, June 10, 2016. Family will meet with friends at 12:30 P.M., Friday, June 17, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary with funeral service to follow at 2:00 P.M. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Emerald, Kansas. Donald was born Friday, May 21, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Leo and Fay (Hale) Callahan. He was raised in Kansas City, Kansas, moving in 1995 to Waverly, where he made his home until his death. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas with the class of 1962. Donald was united in marriage with Barbara Jean Bollin June 16, 1962, in Kansas City, Kansas. She preceded him in death May 27, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Leo, Eugene and Robert Callahan. Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Brown and husband Bill of Williamsburg; son, Larry Callahan of Ottawa; sisters, Beverly Andrew of Overland Park and Patsy Wright of Shawnee; three granddaughters, three great granddaughters, one great grandson; and special friend, Shirley Douglas of Shawnee. Donald worked as sergeant over the Score Team for the Kansas City, Kansas Police Force for twenty-six years. He retired to his dream of having his own farm and raising registered Black Angus cattle in Waverly. Donald was also a cabinet maker most of his life. Donald served in the United States Army Reserves as staff sergeant from September 5, 1966 to November 30, 1971. He was a member of the Kansas City, Kansas Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 4.
