Donald Hayward Lockaby, 83, of Pomona, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas.
Celebration of Life services will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Appanoose Baptist Church, Appanoose community, Franklin County.
Donald was born Saturday, July 1, 1939, at Laurens, South Carolina, the son of Johnnie Heywood and Nora A. (Wofford) Huckaby.
He lived in Pomona, Kansas since 1998, moving there from Westminster, Colorado where he resided for over twenty years. Prior to living in Westminster, he also lived in Cleveland, Georgia and Huntington Beach, California.
Donald was united in marriage to Brenda Sanders February 3, 1961, at Cleveland, Georgia. They were happily married for over 62 years. Brenda survives of the home.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1957.
Donald was a lifelong truck driver, driving for Walmart the last ten years and earned many accomplishments and awards for his driving skills. Donald competed in several truck driving competitions and won many awards for his skills including 1st place in the Truck Rodeo Fifth Axle Competition in March 1991 and several awards with the Colorado Motor Carriers and Kansas Motor Carriers Association. Most recently, he drove the special needs school bus for West Franklin USD #287.
Donald was a member of the City Council for the City of Pomona, Kansas.
He enjoyed NASCAR, golfing, and was an expert fisherman. Donald especially enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by parents, Johnnie Lockaby and Nora Huckaby and grandson, Dusty Lockaby.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Lockaby; daughters, Colleen (O.L.) Kiker of Gardner, Kansas, Donna (Art) Montoya of Westminster, Colorado, Terressa (Mike) Biondich of Buyck, Minnesota; son, Dewayne (Val) Lockaby of Winnemucca, Nevada; sister, Joan Duke of Turtletown, Tennessee; Brother Jimmy (Joyce) Lockaby of Dahlonaga, Georgia; grandchildren, Eric (Gina) Montoya, Donny (Stephanie) Whiteside, Jennifer (Joe) Pittman, Robyn (Nate) Whiteside-Wilson, Daniel Lockaby and Davey (Bethany) Kiker; great grandchildren, Hali and Cade Montoya, Alexis Pittman, Aiden Lindell, Bennytt Whiteside and Ivy Wilson; along with several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
