Donald G. "Charlie" Weitman, 81, of Louisburg, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. He was born to Irvin John & Edna Marie (Roberts) Weitman in LaBelle, MO, on October 10, 1927. Charlie married Norma Derenburger on Oct. 6, 1947 in Billings, MT. He spent 2 years in the Army before entering a career in road construction. With Reno Construction/APAC of Kansas, Charlie went from equipment operator to equipment manager as vice president during his 47 years with the company. Charlie"s hobbies were raising cattle and showing Arabian horses. He was a longtime member of several horse associations and served on the EKAHA board. A relaxing activity he spent hours doing was baling hay for the animals on his farm. Years ago he was the owner & operator of the town"s only fast food establishment, Charlie"s Louisburgers. He was always open to a new adventure. Charlie & Norma were married 54 years when she passed away. Others preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Bill. Survivors include 1 son, Terry Weitman & wife Myrna of LaCygne, KS; 2 daughters, Beckie Dysart & husband Bill and Patty Burk & husband Stoney both of Louisburg, KS; 7 grandchildren, Kim Weitman Brady, David Dysart, Danny Weitman, Nicki Burk Chitwood, Carolyn Burk Anderson, Susan Dysart Kneedler and Jason Burk. Mr. Weitmans great grandchildren are Logan, Zack & Alyssa Brady; Andrea & Ashley Chitwood; Chelisa Hollinger, Luke, Shelby & Paul Weitman; Ainsley & Eliza Dysart; Kyan Dru Kneedler; Jocelyn Burk; plus 2 babies yet to arrive. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Penwell- Gabel Funeral Home, Louisburg, KS. Services will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 10:00 a.m., at the chapel, with burial in the Louisburg Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Eastern Kansas Arabian Horse Association.
