Donald E. Hieber

Donald E. Hieber, 79, of Stilwell, Kansas, died on Monday, October 15, 2018. Don was born January 15, 1939 in a farm house in Lane, Kansas to Jake and Elsie Hieber. He leaves behind a sister, Mary Ellis, married to LaVern, of Lane, KS and a brother, John Hieber, married to Leora of Bel-Air, MD. Don grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Lane High School in 1957. He attended the University of Kansas and upon graduating college, he began working for Bendix King as an electrical engineer. After working for the same company for 35 years, Don retired at the age of 57. Don leaves behind his wife and high-school sweetheart, Loree. They were married on August 13, 1961 in Lane, Kansas. In 1968, they moved to their small 40-acre home outside of Paola, Kansas where they raised their 3 children, along with their small menagerie of cattle, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys and peacocks. After 25 years on the farm, they moved to their current home in Stilwell, Kansas where they have lived the last 25 years together. Don leaves behind a son, Neal with wife Janet of Stilwell, KS; a daughter, Tracey Hecker with husband Allen, of Paola, KS; a son Dan with wife, Cathy of Paola, KS; and a daughter by love, Teresa Dameron with husband, Dennis of Paola, KS. The highlight of his retirement years was his 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Continuing his legacy are Kim Poffinbarger with husband, Jeff of Belton, MO along with great grandsons, Hunter and Asher; Tim Hieber with wife Steff of Gardner, KS; Andy Hieber of Conway, SC; Matthew Hieber of Stilwell, KS; Tyler Hieber with wife, Ashley of Manhattan, KS; Justin Hieber of Paola, KS; Caleb Hecker of Chanute, KS; Jacquee Hecker of Paola, KS; and Ben Dameron of Paola, KS.
