Don E. Sheler, 79, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Rock Creek of Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Cremation will follow with inurnment later at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Don was born May 21, 1942, at Erie, Kansas, the son of James E. and Velma R. (Taylor) Sheler. He attended Chanute High School and from the mid-1960’s lived in Ottawa.w In 1960, Don was united in marriage to Helen Ruth Dunlap in Texas. He was a lifelong bricklayer, retiring in 2010. Don was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers Local 15, Kansas City, Missouri. He enjoyed reading westerns, coon hunting, investing, and baseball. Don was a hard worker and very proud of his bricklaying work. Above all, family, friends and grandchildren were most important to Don. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Sheler, parents, daughter Brenda Sheler, and son Tommy Dunlap. Survivors include three children, Dennis Sheler (Annette) of Topeka, Ethel Brady (Larry Barry) of Ottawa, and Roy Dunlap (Judy), also of Ottawa; four siblings, Emma Price (Ron) of Ottawa, Martha Dickey (Howard) of Princeton, Eldon Sheler of Ottawa, and Clifford Sheler (Patty) also of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Doris Ann Dunlap of Topeka; brother-in-law, Kenny Dale Dunlap of Ottawa; and five grandchildren, Tiffany Bailey, Kristine Brady, Dacota Dunlap, Paul Dunlap, and Micah Sheler; and several great grandchildren.
