Dewey Stanley Cook

Dewey S. Cook, 73, Ottawa, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Boone County, Neb., to George S. and Laura M. (Miller) Cook. He had lived in Ottawa since January 1962. He also lived at Albion, Neb., for 20 years; Norfolk, Neb., for three years; Omaha, Neb., for a year; Topeka, for a year; Emporia, for six months; and Scandia, for a year. He graduated from Albion High School, Albion, Neb., in 1953. He was baptized and confirmed at Albion Methodist Church, Albion, Neb., and attended Faith Lutheran Church, Ottawa. He was a member of Ottawa Lodge No. 803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; Ottawa Lodge No. 18, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons; and Aerie Lodge No. 2700. Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ottawa. He served on the Franklin County Fair Board for 18 years and the Ottawa Municipal Auditorium Board. He was the recipient of Russell Crites Award and was ambassador chairman of the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce for eight years. He married Dorothy A. Petersen, Aug. 22, 1954, at Albion, Neb. She survives. Survivors also include daughters, Julie Mae Cook, Ottawa, Delilah Rae James, and her husband, Kevin, Ottawa, and Arline Fae Kindle, and her husband, Gary, Eudora; a son, Dewey Cook Jr., and his wife, Kathleen, Ottawa; grandchildren, Natalie Cook, Jessica Stinson, Amy Cook, Margo James, Emily Cook, Jennifer Cook, Erryn Kindle, Jeffrey James and Bryan Kindle; a great-grandchild, Wyatt Jessie Melton; a sister, Marlene Schademann, Geneva, Neb.; five stepgreat-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Lester Cook, Gerald Cook, Eldon Cook, Edwin Cook, Merlin Cook, Virgil Cook and William Cook; and sisters, Mildred Harbottle and Goldie Cook. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2008. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Cook at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Faith Lutheran Church or Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
