Derick Steven “D-Rod” Dryden, 25, Ottawa, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Ottawa. He was born Oct. 16, 1984, in Ottawa to Steve and Karen (Johnson) Dryden. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 2004 and Fort Scott Junior College in 2007 with a degree in agricultural science. The past two years, he worked as an automotive painter with his father at Steve’s Auto Plaza Body Shop in Lawrence. He also worked with Watts and Harris family farms the past two years and was an auctioneer for Franklin County Auction Service. He was a member of Future Farmers of America, Boy Scouts of America, achieving life rank, Kansas Livestock Association, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Kansas High School Rodeo Association and many more. He married Amber Snover May 9, 2009, in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. Other survivors include parents, Steve and Karen Dryden, Ottawa; sisters, Stephanie Circle, and her husband, Jason, Ottawa, and Kristi Dryden, Ottawa; brother-in-law, Aaron Good, Ottawa; maternal grandmother, Geraldine Johnson, Ottawa; paternal grandmother, Darlene Dryden, Ottawa; niece, Teigan Good, Ottawa; nephews, Justin Circle, Ottawa, and Shane Circle, Ottawa; many aunts, uncles, cousins, his wife’s family and daughter, Dally Girl, his dog. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Austin Dryden; maternal grandfather, Clyde O. Johnson; paternal grandfather, John Dryden; niece, Sadye Circle; and nephew, Trevor Wormell. Family will meet with friends 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Memorial contributions can be made to the Derick Dryden Memorial Fund and sent in care of Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
