Dent D. Benjamin, age 72, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Graveside memorial service with Military Honors will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 21, 2023, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
He was born Tuesday, January 16, 1951, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Earl Frederick and Cena Geneva (Bible) Benjamin.
He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy, in Lexington, Missouri in 1969. He served in the United States Marine Corps from December 1969 until October 1970. After an honorable military discharge, Dent attended the University of Kansas in 1971.
Moving from Garnett, Kansas to Ottawa, Kansas in the mid 1970’s, Dent partnered with his father as co-owner of Benjamin Dairy Farm.
Dent was united in marriage to his loving wife Kathy Hollingsworth on September 1, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They shared 45 years raising their family together in rural Ottawa, Kansas.
Dent was employed with Conoco-Phillips Pipeline in Paola, Kansas for twenty-five years. He held many positions; primarily a gauger operator, until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the Aerie Lodge 2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ottawa.
Dent was an adventurous outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. He loved his fireworks, inspiring the excitement and loudness for his favorite holiday, the 4th of July. He took pride in watching his sons play baseball. Together with his two sons, he cheered on the Chiefs, Royals, and the KU Jayhawks basketball team.
He will be remembered for his mischievous prankster personality that created many smiles and laughs. Throughout the laughing moments, Dent was compassionate and dependable to help anyone anytime anywhere no matter the circumstance.
Dent was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; children, Dustin Benjamin, Russel Benjamin (Tiffany O’Brien) of Ottawa, Kansas; sister, Genell Benjamin of Lawrence, Kansas; and grandson, Berkley Benjamin of Ottawa, Kansas.
