Dennis M. Reed, 80, of Osawatomie, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the University of Kansas Hospital. He died peacefully with his family by his side, speaking with them until the end. Memorial services will be held at 6:30 P.M., Monday, June 26, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary Osawatomie Chapel with a visitation to follow. Family inurnment Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, Kansas, with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Dennis was born Thursday, April 15, 1937, in El Dorado, Kansas, the son of Harry and Flossie Pearl (Call) Reed. He grew up in Parker, Kansas, and lived in various locations throughout his life, including Independence, Missouri, Osawatomie, Paola, McAllen, Texas, Edwardsville, returning to Osawatomie, where he currently lived. He graduated from Parker High School with the class of 1956. Dennis served in the United States Army from March 1960 to April 1962 obtaining the rank of specialist 4th class. Dennis was united in marriage to Helen Winters in 1957 in Goodrich, Kansas, 4 children were born out of this marriage. She preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Carolyn (Huck) Kettler August 26, 1977, in Osawatomie. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his daughter, Patricia Benedict and husband Kelly of Osawatomie and grandchildren Joshua Cooper and Tiffany Cooper; son, Terry Reed of Paola and granddaughter Chelsea Ammons; son, Bobby Reed and wife Konnie of Parker and grandchildren Colten Reed and Logan Reed; stepson, John Kettler and wife Cristi of Spring Hill and grandchildren Amber, Taylor and Austin; stepson, Paul Kettler and wife Tammy of Osawatomie and grandchildren Brandon, Christina, Heather, DeeDee and Makayla; stepson, Mark Kettler and wife Stephanie of Osawatomie and grandchildren Mariah and Eliza Jane; two sisters, Mary Morrison of Centerville, and Olive Reed of Osawatomie; brother, Joe Reed of Wellsville; fifteen great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Dennis Reed, Jr.; and two brothers, Ira Reed and Norman Reed. Dennis was employed with Osawatomie State Hospital as an aid in the 1950s; General Motors Leeds Automotive Plant in Kansas City, Missouri, as an assembler from 1962 to 1989; and General Motors Parts Plant in Everman, Texas, as a picker from 1989 until his retirement in 1992. In the last year, Dennis was a greeter at Walmart in Bonner Springs. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, United Auto Workers Local 93 Kansas City, Missouri, and activity director at Midway Park, Donna, Texas. Dennis loved spending time with his family and enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling, flowers and playing with his little dog, Charity.
