Dennis D. "Jack" Smith

Dennis D. “Jack” Smith, 79, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021, at AdventHealth Ottawa. Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Jack’s Life to be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Crosspointe Community Church, 621 N. Poplar, Ottawa. Jack was born May 8, 1942, in Ottawa, the son of Lyndon and Nora Smith. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident, graduating from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1960. Jack attended Ottawa University and was in the National Guard in Ottawa. On April 17, 1997, Jack was united in marriage to Janis G. Armstrong in Ottawa. For many years, Jack was the owner/operator of Smith Motor Company, a used car dealership in Ottawa. He was later employed by USD 290 as a custodian for 10 years, retiring in 2011. He attended Crosspointe Community Church, was a former member of the Ottawa Optimist Club, and enjoyed going to the Ottawa Elks Club. Jack also enjoyed golf, riding dirt bikes and antiquing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Lesley Smith, and sister Gail Smith. Survivors include his wife, Janis Smith of the home.
