Della V. Dotson Cowan

Della Viola Dotson Cowan, age 87,of Independence, MO, passed away on Tuesday June 28, 2011 at John Knox Hospice Care Center, Lee"s Summit, MO. She was born September 19, 1923 at Vandalia, MO, the daughter of Edna Lynn and Porter B. Pratt. She was a loving lady and was blessed with wonderful friends. Della was a sympathetic listener when ever family and friends needed her. She loved watching her TV shows and also loved her country music. She worked a short time at the Blair House in Louisburg, KS. She was united in marriage to Edward Alfred Dotson on July 9, 1938 in Kansas City, MO and she raised 8 children in the Kansas City, Wea and Louisburg, KS areas. She was a very special person to all of us and she will be sadly missed by everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Gary Dodson, 2 grandchildren, one, son-in-law, two brothers and three sisters. She married George Hollis Cowan on September 22, 1979, and he preceded her in death as well. Survivors include three sons, Eddie Dotson and wife Karen, Raytown, MO; Robert Dotson and wife Sharon, Independence, MO; and Virgil Dotson and wife Annette, Fayetteville, N.C.; four daughters, Mary Jane Lawrence, Sammon, KS; Patricia Castleberry and husband Leslie, Paola, KS; Ruby Smith and husband Ronald, Paola, KS; and Carolyn Earl and husband Frank, Stockton, KS; and many grand-children. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Penwell " Gabel Louisburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be follow in the Bucyrus Cemetery, Bucyrus, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to John Knox Village Hospice.
