Della Cheasbro

Della Cheasbro was born on April 18, 1907, at Winston, Missouri, to William and Bessie (Taylor) Palmer. Her siblings are Lena Palmer, Gladys Middleton, Edna Kenagy, and Alva Palmer, who are all deceased. Della was a near lifelong Franklin County resident, moving from their farm, northeast of Ottawa into Ottawa in 1972, living in her own home until August 2002. She then moved to Christian Care Cottage in ottawa where she made her home until her death Friday, July 25, 2003, at the age of ninety-six years. Della attended rural schools in Missouri. She was a homemaker and loved working with her husband on their farm. Della was always excited to get in the garden and work. Canning the various foods after they were picked was another hobby. She also enjoyed reading and traveling with with the kids. She would often go to car auctions with her son and attended several livestock auction. Della was a collector of miniature dog figurines and loved animals of all sorts. Her greatest treasure was her family of which is was very proud. Della was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Ottawa. On July 11, 1927 Della was united in marriage with Ernest Jackson Cheasbro at Paola, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 5, 1974. Della is survived by a daughter, Dororthy Erikson of Paola, Kansas; three sons, Leonard Cheasbro of Ottawa,Kansas, Raymond Cheasbro of Overland Park, Kansas, David Cheasbro of Paola, Kansas; a stepdaughter, Helen Hamblin of Gardner, Kansas; ten grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and fine great great grandchildren. Besides her parents and siblings Della is preceeded in death by a son, Walter Cheasbro. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Paola Cemetery, Paola, Kansas. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Leonard Cheasbro and Rev. Lewis R. McCartney IN STATE: Mrs. Cheasbro will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Monday to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 6 - 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. CEMETERY: Paola Cemetery, Paola, Kansas Cemetery. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Christian Care Cottage II c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
