Deelo J. “Dee” Harris, 88, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Memorial mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, November 3, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A private family inurnment will be held later at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Deelo was born Tuesday, November 6, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Willie and Alice (Adwon) Hyman. She lived in Amarillo, Texas, and San Diego, California, before moving in 2012 to Ottawa, Kansas. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Amarillo, Texas with the class of 1946. Deelo was united in marriage to Michael Harris September 1, 1966, in Amarillo. He preceded her in death November 5, 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Alice Hyman. Survivors include her daughter, Gloria Hornung and husband Dave of Ottawa; four grandchildren, Melinda Yuschak and husband Aaron of McKinney, Texas, Deadra Berens and husband Michael of Carrolton, Texas, Peter Hornung and Lisa Johnson of Ottawa, and William Hornung also of Ottawa; and five great grandchildren, Kaylee Berens, Kendra Berens, Gabe Hornung, Abby Hornung, and Braddock Yuschak. Deelo was employed as a clerical assistant for Southwestern Public Service in Amarillo, Texas from 1955 to 1971; she sang as a soloist in San Diego, California from 1971 to the mid-1980s; and was a sales associate for a women’s clothing store in Amarillo from the mid-1980s until retirement in 2010. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church putting God first in her life, reading her Bible and keeping a daily journal. Deelo loved her family and friends and the time they spent together.
