Debra Ann “Debbie” Calahan, 65, of Ottawa, KS, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2020, at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. The family will meet with friends following the service. A private family burial will be scheduled at Highland Cemetery later. Debbie was born September 1, 1954, in Norfolk, NE, the daughter of Joseph and Zelma (Hanna) Wehrle, who made their home in Madison, NE. In 1959, the family moved to Ottawa, KS where Debbie remained a lifelong resident, graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1973. Debbie was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Calahan July 7, 1979, in Ottawa. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a brother, Edward O. Wehrle and wife Teresa of Pomona and their children, Tiffani Majors of Burlington, KS and Joseph Wehrle of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents. Debbie worked as an assembler for King Radio from 1973 to the early 1990’s then as a stocker for over 10 years for the Walmart Supercenter. She was also an order filler for the Walmart Distribution Center for several years. In addition, Debbie worked in the maintenance departments for USD 290 and at the Franklin County Courthouse, retiring in 2018. Debbie loved collecting salt & pepper shakers, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family and her pet dog Nikki. She was an animal lover her entire life. She enjoyed watching the wild birds and squirrels, always making sure their feeders were full. The family suggests memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
