Deborah Elaine 'Debbie' Grove was born December 23, 1954, at San Antonio, Texas. She was the daughter of William T. and Laurel M. (Boggs) Hughes. Deborah lived in Denver, Colorado; Cheyenne, Wyoming; Omaha, Nebraska; Yuba City, Riverside, Sacramento, and Moreno Valley, California; Montgomery, Alabama; Tampa and Valrico Florida; Overland Park, Kansas; San Antonio, Houston, and Fort Worth, Texas; and Farmington, New Mexico. For the past eleven years, she made her home in the Pomona/Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas area, until her death Friday, May 7, 2004, at the age of forty-nine years. Deborah graduated from Nallwood Junior High and Shawnee Mission South High School, with the class of 1973, in Overland Park, Kansas. She also attended Johnson County Community College in Overland Park. She worked as an order filler for Wal-Mart Distribution Center and the bakery in Wal-Mart Supercenter, both of Ottawa, from the late 1990's to 2002, retiring due to illness. She was a member of Assembly of God Church in Pomona. Deborah's greatest joy came from her family. She was a loving, devoted daughter, wife, mother, and friend. Debbie loved the outdoors and liked to go fishing and horseback riding. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and drawing. She was an excellent cook and always enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Deborah was united in marriage with Chris Grove at Riverside, California. They later divorced. She was united in marriage with David Scott at Pomona, Kansas. He survives of their home. She is also survived by her parents, William and Laurel Hughes, of Overland Park, Kansas; three sons, Nicholas, Travis, and Weston Grove, all of Ottawa; sister, Sharon M. Merdian and her husband, Stuart, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; and brother, Robert E. Hughes and his wife, Claudia, of Blue Springs, Missouri. SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held from the Dengel Mortuary 10:00am Saturday May 15, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Ron James. IN STATE: Deborah will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7:00 to 8:00 Friday evening, May 14. INURNMENT: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Franklin County Cancer Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
