Dean J. Sauer, 87, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. Services are planned for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, with burial at Highland Cemetery. Mr. Sauer will lie in state at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday to the service hour, where family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. He was born Monday, November 3, 1924, in Humboldt, Kansas, the son of Frederick John Sauer and Gladys Ella Patch. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942. Dean and Donna Duvall were united in marriage March 15, 1946, enjoying sixty-five years together. His employment history includes General Motors, Ft. Worth, Texas Aircraft, bulk milk route, Pitman Manufacturing, retiring from King Radio in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, antiquing and refinishing furniture. He was a fifty plus year member of Masonic Lodge 54 of Shawnee, Kansas, First United Methodist Church and Tauy Aerie Lodge #2700 Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ottawa. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Sandra Lang and her husband, Richard; son, Dale Sauer and his wife, Sharon; granddaughter, Rhonda Reynolds; two great grandchildren; brother, Jack Sauer and his wife, Julia; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. The family has suggested memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
