David W. Wright, 58, from Ottawa, Kansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 27, 2024. He was born on December 24, 1966, in Merriam, Kansas, the son of Marvin F. and Margaret (Painter) Wright. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, whose life left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In 1985, David graduated from Shawnee Mission NW High School and went on to attend college for a short time, always eager to learn and grow.
He was blissfully united in marriage on April 30, 1988 in Westwood, Kansas to Kelly Gibson. She survives of the home.
David dedicated nineteen years of his career as a heavy equipment mechanic with the City of Lenexa, showcasing his technical skills and strong work ethic throughout his professional life.
Beyond his career, David had a wealth of hobbies and interests that filled his life with joy. He enjoyed mudding and 4-wheeling, relishing the thrill of adventure. His love for cars was evident as he frequently attended car shows and swap meets. David also had a passion for antiquing and tools, which brought him much satisfaction. His playful spirit was highlighted by his fondness for playing practical jokes, adding laughter to the lives of those around him.
David took immense pride in his family and was a beloved member of the Rock Creek Church of Christ. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, including his wife Kelly, who remains, along with their three children: Samuel Wright (Andrea) of Ottawa, Kansas, Cody Wright (Kimberly) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Charity Wright of Lane, Kansas. He leaves behind his sister, Deanna Wright of Lenexa, Kansas, sister Alice Dexter also of Lenexa, Kansas, and brother James Wright of Kansas. David's legacy also includes three grandchildren, Connor Wright, Kian Wright, and Grayson Wright, whom he adored deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents whose memory will always be cherished by his family
A visitation to honor David will be held on January 2, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Rock Creek Church of Christ, located at 2264 U.S. 59, Ottawa, Kansas. This will be followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:00 AM and subsequently a burial at Highland Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
His strong faith in Christ from a very young age provided a strength and foundation for raising his family along with his work and social environments. This faith brought him peace knowing he will one day see his loved ones again. David’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends, as they remember his kindness, humor, and dedication to those he loved leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
