David R. Burgoon

David R. Burgoon, age 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Friday, March 2, 2012, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Kansas. He was born on Monday, October 12, 1925, in Rantoul, Kansas, the son of Rolla Clarence and Mildred Rae (Dawson) Burgoon. He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas David graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1943. He was employed by Buildex of Ottawa for fifty-five years as a welder, retiring March 30, 2006. David served in the United States Navy from April of 1943 to April of 1946, during World War II, earning the rank of Fireman, Second Class. His tour of duty included Guam. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901, Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Ottawa Men’s Bowling Association, all of Ottawa. On Saturday, May 31, 1947, David was united in marriage with Mary Lucille “Mary Lu” Sinclair in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife – Mary Lucille “Mary Lu” Burgoon of their home; Son - Richard Burgoon and his wife, Marla, of Ottawa, Kansas; Son - Randy Burgoon and Martha Hall of Prairie Village, Kansas; Daughter - Patty Cromwell and her husband, Roger, of Ottawa, Kansas; Grandchildren – (7) Shane, Ricky, Chad, Steven, Tye, David Ray, and Kizzy Great-grandchildren-Thirteen and Several Nieces & Nephews. He is preceded in death by his Parents - Rolla Clarence and Mildred Rae Burgoon; Son - David G. Burgoon; Brother - Walter Richard Burgoon; Brother - Roy Burgoon; Brother - Billy Burgoon; Brother - Rolla Burgoon, Jr.; Nephew – Roy Burgoon; Nephew – Mike Burgoon; Nephew – John Burgoon and Great Nephew – Shane Burgoon. SERVICES: Family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Mr. Burgoon’s wishes were for cremation. Inurnment Services will be held at a later date. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
