David G. Garman, 83, of Princeton, Kansas, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at Dengel Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 31, 2014. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Family will meet with friends, at the mortuary, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, March 30, 2014. David was born on Tuesday, March 25, 1930, in Blue Springs, Nebraska, the son of James Gerald and Ollie Elizabeth (Hamby) Garman. He graduated from Union Center High School, Blue Springs, with the class of 1948. David served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant 1st Class. He lived in Topeka prior to moving to their farm in Princeton in 1957. David was a lifelong mechanic working for Sheldons, Ottawa Tractor and Topeka Mower all of Ottawa; Massey Ferguson, Gardner; and Sunflower Ammunition Plant, De Soto. During his later years he worked as a self-employed mechanic. On May 31, 1953, David was united in marriage with Maggie Long in Topeka, Kansas. She survives of their home. Survivors also include his three sons, David Wayne Garman and wife Carol of Columbia, Missouri, Scott Alan Garman and wife Joyce of Princeton, and Gary Lee Garman and wife Gena of Wellsville; siblings, Mildred Woolaway of Silverlake, Kansas, Francis Garman of Orland, California, and LaVerna Lane and husband Jerry of Topeka; twelve grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joy Lee Thornbrugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence and Donald Garman; and sister, Helen Bohac.
