David Carr Avery

June 11, 1941 — December 14, 2013

David (Carr) Avery, age 72, of Paola, Kansas, formerly of Merriam, Kansas, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Olathe Medical Center. David was born June 11, 1941 at Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri, with the Class of 1958. He earned an associates degree at Johnson County Community College where he also learned the trade of heating and cooling in their vocational training. David served his country with pride in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He entered the Navy in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1965. He served aboard the USS Missouri and the USS Midway. He worked for Securitage, a security company at Sprint World Headquarters, in Overland Park, Kansas for over 10 years retiring four years ago in 2009 due to his health. He and his wife Dottie have shared their lives together for the last 32 years. They moved to Paola from Merriam five years ago. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Paola. He was preceded in death by his mother Edna, brother Leroy, two daughters Teri and LeeAnn and grandson Stephen. He is survived by his wife Dottie; six children Alan Carr of Vacaville, California, James Carr of Cabot, Arkansas, Don F. Carr of Jacksonville, Florida, David Carr of Chicago, Illinois, Linda Kendrick of Coupeville, Washington, and Donna Willis of Haughton, Louisiana; 31 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
