Daryl Rohrer

December 25, 1927 — August 9, 2010

Daryl Dean Rohrer, 82 of Paola, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side August 9, 2010, after an extended illness following a stroke January 14, 2010. He was born December 25, 1927 on the family farm west of Paola. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1946. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard for seven years. He was united in marriage to Marie Seuferling in Wea on December 1, 1951. They made their home on the family farm where he farmed with his father for many years. He also was employed at the Osawatomie State Hospital, Taylor Forge, Sweet Lumber Company, and R.O. products, along with continuing to farm. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and lifetime member of American Legion Post 156 of Paola. Daryl enjoyed wood-working and built toy chests for each of his grandchildren with wood from the barn built by his grandfather, Ezekial Rohrer. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife after retirement. They visited Texas and Arizona in the winters for several years. He greatly enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and visiting with people. He loved to give "high 5"s" to his great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of nearly 59 years; three daughter and their families, Debra and husband Bill Griffith of rural Paola, Darlene and husband Lynn Wobker of rural Osawatomie, and Cheryl and husband David Brownback of Ellsworth, KS; six grandchildren, Angela Griffith and life partner Susan Hizey, Kimberli Bean and husband Nicholas, Fredrick Griffith and wife Leah, Jeffrey Brownback and wife Susan, Douglas Brownback and wife Michelle, and Nicholas Wobker; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Bean Jr., Caden Griffith-Hizey, and Ava Griffith; one sister, Isabel Rohrer; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will greatly miss him. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Philip Neri Church or Vitas Hospice.
