Darrell W. Wadkins

Darrell W. Wadkins, 75, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Cremation is planned with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Darrell was born July 24, 1946, at Ottawa, the son of Athel “Jiggs” and Eula M. (Crawford) Wadkins. He was a lifelong Ottawa resident, graduating from Ottawa High School with the Class of 1964. Darrell served in the United States Air Force. He was a maintenance supervisor with Duke Manufacturing in Ottawa for over 20 years. Darrell later was employed with Franklin County as the Director of Building Maintenance retiring after 20 years of service. Darrell enjoyed tinkering and fixing lawn mowers, his grandchildren’s go carts, minibikes, and fishing poles. He enjoyed going to garage sales, British motorcycles and Harleys. Family and friends were very important to Darrell, and he looked forward to the time he spent together with them and his grandkids. He enjoyed short trips with Tammy and having coffee with his sister and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Carolyn Currant. Survivors include Tameria Shipley of the home; two children, Justin Wadkins (Amanda) of Ottawa, and Shelly Buerman of Eudora; two siblings, Shirley Burnett (Billie) of Ottawa, and Robert Wadkins (JoAnn) of Garnett; five grandchildren, Brock, Braxton and Brady Wadkins and Ronald and Tyler Buerman; great-grandson R.J. Buerman; and several nieces and nephews. Contributions for funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated by the family.
