Darrell L. Griffin

Darrell L. Griffin, age 80, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Monday, September 13, 2010, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. He was born on Friday, June 20, 1930, in Williamsburg, Kansas, the son of William Harrison and Vesta (Waldon) Griffin. Darrell was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas. He grew up in Williamsburg, moving to Pomona in 1949 and Ottawa in 1961. He worked in the Ransomville coal mines and on the Missouri Pacific Railroad when he was young and worked as a laborer on construction sites until he retired. He was a member of North Baptist Church in Ottawa; and Local 1290 Union of Kansas City, Kansas for over fifty years. On Saturday, December 17, 1949, Darrell was united in marriage with Darlene Barber in Williamsburg, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is survived by his: Wife- Darlene Griffin of the home; Daughter-Teresa Griffin of Ottawa, Kansas; Sister-in-law-Clara Griffin of Pomona, Kansas; Sister-in-law-Sally Griffin of Pomona and numerous nieces & nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his: Parents-William Harrison and Vesta Griffin; Brother-William Griffin; Brother-Maynard Griffin; Brother-Kenneth Griffin; Brother-Howard Griffin; Brother-Willard Griffin; Brother-Ross Griffin; Brother-Graden Griffin; Sister-Edith Reed and Sister-Ruth Yockey. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 17, 2010. IN STATE: Mr. Griffin will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 9:00 Thursday evening. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas.
