Darlene Ross, 82, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Olathe Medical Center. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., Friday, October 13, 2017, at the mortuary. Inurnment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Darlene was born June 28, 1935, in Ottawa County, Kansas, the daughter of William and Angie (Brown) Johnston. She lived in Pleasanton, Kansas, moving in the early 1960s to Ottawa. She graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1953. Darlene was united in marriage to Marvin E. Ross June 3, 1956 in Garnett, Kansas. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Angie Johnston; brother, Earl Johnston; and sister, Ellen Hinkle. Survivors include her three children, Sharon Ross and Carl Braxton of Los Angeles, California, Allen Ross and wife Karen of Ottawa, and John Ross and Cheri Bowden of Wellsville; four grandchildren, Nathanael Ross and Danielle Feliz Fulmer of Ottawa, Shane Ross of Ottawa, Jaclyn Baker and husband Ben also of Ottawa, and Travis Ross of Wellsville; and great granddaughter, Sophia Richardson. Darlene was employed as an administrative assistant with Lake Region RC&D Ottawa, in the late 1970s, retiring in 1997. She was an active member of the First Christian Church and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5901 Auxiliary. Darlene enjoyed helping with dinners and Bingo at the VFW, played Dominos and cards, was involved at the Senior Center, enjoyed traveling, and above all she loved spending time with her family and friends.
