Daniel Derald "Danny" Hornbacher age 80 of Paola, KS passed away at Osawatomie Life Care Center, Osawatomie, KS on Tuesday Feb. 8, 2011. (Cremation) A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, Feb. 13 from 1:00 " 4:00 p.m. at Osage Terrace Club House, 502 N. Hospital Dr., Paola, KS. Daniel was born on March 12, 1930 in Culbertson, Nebraska to Daniel and Josie (Turner) Hornbacher. He attended and graduated from Oak Park Academy in Nevada, Iowa in 1948. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 and was given an honorable discharge in 1953 as a sergeant, after serving in Austria in the 350th Infantry. On Sept. 4, 1954 Daniel was united in marriage to Janet Kinyon in Nevada, Iowa. Daniel worked as a carpenter, welder, auto mechanic, boiler technician and farmer during his lifetime. He and his wife moved to Paola in 2007, after living in Loveland, Colorado for more than 30 years. Daniel enjoyed listening to polka music and dancing, old cars and tractors, and bird watching. He had the gift of gab and never met a stranger; he also was known for his joke telling, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother William Hornbacher. Survivors are his wife, Janet of the home; his children, son Gene Hornbacher of Marshall, CO, daughter Becky Fitch of Kearney, NE, son Dean Hornbacher of Paola, son Jon Hornbacher of Loveland CO, brother James Hornbacher of North Platte NE, brother Vernon Hornbacher of Story City, IA, sister Mildred Bates of Layton, UT, sister Erma Larson of Veneta, OR, sister Joyce Hadley of Nevada, IA, sister Carla Jean Suggs of Columbia, SC, 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
