Daniel Eugene Johnston, age 61, of Lane, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Dengel & Son Mortuary - Osawatomie Chapel, 605 O'Neal Avenue, Osawatomie, KS, 66064. Family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2019 at the mortuary. Daniel Eugene Johnston was born Wednesday, July 10, 1957, in Garnett, KS, the son of the late Norman Lee Johnston and Jo Lene (Ralston) Thoele. He grew up in rural Lane and attended school at Central Heights graduating in 1975. He was married to Shelly Johnson on September 27, 1980. They became the parents of one son Dustin. The marriage ended in divorce. He was united in marriage to Glenda Webster on May 20, 1991, in Miami, OK. They had been dating since 1983. They made their home at rural Lane and became the parents of two children Clint and Nicole. Survivors include his wife Glenda of the home; sons Dustin of Chicago, Illinois and Clint of the home; daughter Nicole of the home; mother Jo Lene Thoele of Rantoul; maternal grandmother Velda Lee Ralston of Richmond; his father and mother-in-law Glenn and Normalee Webster of Kansas City, Kansas; step-mother Darcy Johnston of Osawatomie; sister Mashelle Hastert of Paola, KS; half brothers Henry Thoele of Lane, Bryan Johnston of Garnett, and Aaron Johnston of Olathe; three half sisters Renee Keele of Greeley, Debbie Johnston of Parker, and Mary Jane Johnston of Lyndon; three step brothers Terry Thoele of Lane, Steve Watson of Lane, and Rick Watson of Topeka; two step-sisters Carol Fletcher of Lane and Annette Oram of Greeley; Rick Conner of Goodrich who was like a brother to Daniel; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Norman Johnston. Daniel worked for MOPAC/Union Pacific Railroad as a mechanic supervisor for 42 years. He started out on the tie gang and worked his way up through the ranks. He became a mechanic and then supervisor where he was in charge of 14 mechanic crews. Daniel raised cattle - Long Horns, Gelbvieh, Limosine, and Angus, There was no time for summer vacations as every summer was spent haying on many farms in addition to their own. Daniel enjoyed playing in pool leagues and was known to be a pool shark. He also liked playing darts, tinkering with cars/mud trucks, and participating in mud runs. Hunting and trapping was another pastime he enjoyed. Daniel was very mechanically inclined, he had even designed and built a cattle trailer.
