Dan Neal McManigal Jr., 41, resident of Louisburg, KS passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Dan McManigal was born June 26, 1972 in Fort Rucker, Alabama, the son of Dan McManigal Sr. and Theresa (Marcotte) Spore. He attended Thomas More Prep High School in Hays, Kansas where he graduated in 1990. Dan attended Kansas University for one year. After experiencing a life-altering car accident, Dan realized his call to serve in the medical profession. He transferred to Johnson County Community College and graduated in 1993 as a Paramedic. Dan worked for Johnson County Med-Act as a paramedic for 20 years achieving the rank of Captain. He was a CPR and ALS instructor for the department and participated on the tactical team and EMS bike team. During his tenure, Dan received many awards and achievements including the "Distinguished Service Award" and the "People Saving People" award from the Kansas Department of Transportation. Dan loved to hunt and was a fabulous cook. His specialty was cooking for the annual Saint Patrick"s Day Party. He loved working as a paramedic at the Nascar races and stand-bye at local football games. He was a superb instructor, teacher, and mentor to countless young EMT"s and paramedics. On October 17, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dan married Jolene Hartgrave of Ankeny, Iowa. Dan and Jolene had two children; Ashlyn, born June 18, 2002, and Colin born August 16, 2004. The McManigals settled in Louisburg, Kansas in 2004. Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Dan McManigal Sr. and Theresa (Marcotte) Spore, his grandparents, Francis and Dorothy Marcotte, and his grandmother Delores Goon. Survivors include Jolene McManigal of Louisburg, Kansas, daughter Ashlyn (11) and son Colin (9) both of Louisburg, Kansas, his sister Debora May, and husband Jason and their children Hayden, Grant and Grace, all of Pratt, Kansas, his Grandfather Neal McManigal and wife Pat of Waldport, Oregon, his brother-in-law Scott Hartgrave and wife Debbie and their children Annika and Lillian all of Louisburg, Kansas, his sister-in-law Jennie Woolman and husband Caleb and their children Cody and Alaina, all of Suisun City, California, and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. Dan will be sorely missed and continues to be loved by all who knew and worked with him. In lieu of flowers, a college fund has been set up to assist Ashlyn and Colin.
