Damon Donald Oberheide, age 90, of rural Paola, KS, died December 11, 2017 at North Point Skilled Nursing Home in Paola. Damon was born May 1, 1927 in rural Paola, KS. He was the son of John Charles and Elizabeth Sophia (Prothe) Oberheide. On May 12, 1927, he was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church and attended Trinity Lutheran School. On April 6, 1941, he confirmed his faith at Trinity Lutheran Church where he held several offices. Damon and Betty Fort were married January 26, 1951 at Block Lutheran Church. They made their home on their farm in rural Miami County and became the parents of three children. Damon served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged November 20, 1946. Damon was a truck driver and farmer. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. What he truly enjoyed was the time spent with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years Betty, sister Dema Pope, brother Elver Oberheide, and grandson Jason Furnish. He is survived by his children and their spouses Mike (Linda) Oberheide of rural Osawatomie, Phil (Juanita) Oberheide of rural Paola, and Debra Oberheide of Osawatomie; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on Damon's Tribute Wall.
