Dale "Whitey" S. Vest, 86, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died March 15, 2012 at Miami County Medical Center in Paola. Whitey was born May 7, 1925 at Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of Ralph and Pearl (Burnett) Vest. He attended school in Osawatomie. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was united in marriage to Nadine Kresin on November 2, 1951 at Bentonville, Arkansas. They became the parents of one daughter Diana. Whitey worked with his father and several Kansas City construction companies as a master carpenter until he retired in 1990. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, hunting, refinishing antiques and working with his hands. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Whitey was a member of the Osawatomie Elks, the Carpenter"s Union, and a former member of the Paola VFW. Whitey was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Diana DeVey, and brother George Vest. He is survived by his sister Dorothy Trotter of Raymore, Missouri; a special sister-in-law Rosie Casida of Paola; and brother-in-law Dayton "Joe" Kresin of Paola. Memorials are to the Elks Scholarship Fund of Osawatomie.
