Dale E. Weien, 77, also known as D. E. Weien, of Ottawa, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at his home. Graveside Services were held Monday, July 8, 2013, at Highland Cemetery. Dale was born on Sunday, September 1, 1935, in Ottawa. He was the son of Joy and Ruth (Channel) Weien. Survivors include his five children, Vicki Langton of Perry, Kansas, Ronnie Weien of Ottawa, James Weien of Ottawa, Jay Weien of Pomona, and Jeff Weien of Ottawa; nine grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Preceding Dale in death are his parents, and sister, Waydeen Smith. Dale drove many races at the Ottawa Race Track. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in France. Dale worked for Bennett’s Creamery in Ottawa and was conductor for Atchison-Topeka-Santa Fe Railroad. He owned Dale Weien Antique Autos and co-founded the Ottawa Antique Auto Club. He was well known for his antique auctions which brought in people from all over the United States (CB handle, Wheeler Dealer). He loved trapshooting, quail and pheasant hunting. He enjoyed collecting antiques, dealing in old cars, and especially making new friends. His most recent years were spent with his dogs, his grandchildren, and taking care of his farm.
