Dale Burton Van Horn

Dale B. Van Horn, 88, of Rantoul, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at Wellsville Retirement Community, Wellsville, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.

The family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa, Kansas.

Dale was born Monday, November 5, 1934, in Franklin County (Greenwood Community), Kansas, the son of Percy and Grace (Young) Van Horn.

He was a lifelong Franklin County resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1952.

Dale was united in marriage to Zelma Proffitt on January 31, 1954, in Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on December 5, 2012. He was also united in marriage to Sandra White on June 28, 2013, at Green Valley Baptist Church. She survives of the home.

He was a lifetime dairyman and farmer. Dale served as a volunteer leader with the Full-O-Pep 4-H club. He was elected to the Franklin County 4-H Extension Council, the Soil Conservation Board, and the Farm Bureau Board. Dale was also a member of the Power of the Past, a township trustee and was on the Rantoul City Council.

Dale was preceded in death by wife, Zelma Van Horn; parents, Percy and Grace Van Horn; brother, Max Van Horn; and sister, Sara Jean Currier.

Survivors include wife, Sandra of Rantoul, Kansas; sons, Jeffery Van Horn (Robbyn) of Baldwin City, Kansas, Gene Van Horn (Sharon) of Wellsville, Kansas, Ted Van Horn (Kris) of Garfield, Kansas; daughter, Pam Van Horn of Manhattan, Kansas, and stepdaughters,Rachelle Chase (Tim) of Osawatomie, Kansas, Debbie Holstine (Danny) of Richmond, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren.
