Curtis Lee Wycoff, age 68, of rural Paola, Kansas, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 19, 2024.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Dengel & Son Mortuary-Paola Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Paola Chapel beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at New Lancaster Cemetery following the funeral service.
Curtis was born March 10, 1956, in Iola, Kansas. He was the son of James (Jim) A. Wycoff and Vella May (Yoho) Wycoff. He grew up in Osawatomie, Kansas and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1974.
Curtis married Letty Renee Crosby in 1976, they later divorced. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Amanda and Jenny. Curtis and Renee ended their marriage in 2002. On July 16, 2005, he was united in marriage to Kaye Henson. They made their home together in rural Paola. Her daughter Annalesha Green, husband, Keith and three children, Hanna Kourtney, and Keith “Keiffer” Jr. became part of the family. They had several happy years together before she proceeded him in death on February 13, 2018.
Curtis was known to many as “Uncle Burpee” with his big toenail in the sky.
Curtis worked for Kenneth R. Johnson's and Penny's Concrete. He also worked out of his house in Osawatomie making keys and doing lockouts many years before he fully took his business to Paola. In October 2023, he started working for Fashion's in Ottawa part-time doing maintenance. He still worked part-time with his locksmith company. Curtis made many friends and enjoyed his work. There was nothing that he couldn't or wouldn't do for anyone who asked. He had a big heart and was always there to help anyone in need all hours of the day and night.
Curtis became a Certified Lay Speaker and a Member to Annual Conference. He preached mostly at Plum Creek Global Methodist Church in Paola, Kansas. As well as other surrounding County Churches. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved playing with all his grandchildren, spending time with them in the garden or in the kitchen dancing to old songs on his records. He enjoyed cooking and baking, traveling in the camper, playing card games, bowling, and woodworking. His favorites included cinnamon rolls and pumpkin rolls and have been enjoyed by all. He loved trying new recipes and most of them were a success.
Along with his wife Kaye, Curtis was proceeded in death by his parents, Jim and Vella Wycoff, and stillborn brother, David Lynn Wycoff.
He is survived by his companion Marilyn Heider, (5 children and 7 grandchildren) his daughters Amanda (Chris) Wilson of Osawatomie, Kansas (2 children), Jenny Yeager of Ottawa, Kansas (2 children and 1 grandchild), their mother, Renee Holloman, stepdaughter Annalesha (Keith) Green of Kansas City, Kansas (3 children and 4 grandchildren), his sister Cindy Wycoff of Olathe and many more loving extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.
