Corey Alexander May was born on Sunday, December 5, 1971, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was the son of B. Kenneth and Danielle (Comens) May. Corey lived in Kansas City, Missouri, Olathe and Stanley, Kansas, moving to Ottawa in 1987. He also lived in Osawatomie, Kentucky, and Germany, returning to Ottawa in 1999, where he made his home until his death on Monday, October 15, 2007, at the age of thirty-five years. Corey graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1990 and attended Johnson County Community College. He was employed the past two years in maintenance for Schuff Steel Midwest in Ottawa. Corey served in the United States Army from 1991 to 1997 as Cpl. E-4, earning citations and awards including Army Lapel Button, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Grenade Bar, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Mortar Bar, Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, and Air Assault Badge. On May 1, 1991, Corey was united in marriage with Stephanie Tschantz in Osawatomie, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his son, Cody Thomas May and daughter, Amanda Elizabeth May, both of the home; father, B. Kenneth May of Ottawa; mother, Danielle May of Overland Park; stepmother, Brenda May of Ottawa; three sisters, Cecily Anne May of Olathe, Casey Amanda White of Shawnee, Angie Lynn McCune of Manhattan; two sisters-in-law, Jennifer Michelle Conklin of Williamsburg, Mary Louise Tschantz of Fulton, MO; maternal grandfather, Norman Dale May of Kansas City, MO; paternal grandmother, Jean Comens of Kansas City, MO; father and mother-in-law, Thomas Peter and Connie Pearl Tschantz of Waverly; brother-in-law, Clayton E. Conklin of Williamsburg; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Heather Ann May; maternal grandfather, Isadore Comens; and paternal grandmother, Ireta Bell. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2007. IN STATE: Casket will remain closed. The family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Friday evening at Dengel & Son Mortuary. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
