Coburn W. “Cobie” Parkin, Jr., 67, of Williamsburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Celebration of Life will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Williamsburg Community Building.
Family will greet friends 5:30-7:30pm, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Cobie was born Sunday, August 19, 1956, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Coburn W. Parkin, Sr. and Dorothy (Kelly) Parkin.
He was a lifelong resident of Williamsburg, Kansas graduating from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1974 where he excelled in football and pole vaulting. Cobie later studied carpentry at an area vocational school.
Cobie was united in marriage on December 2, 1978, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Mary Ann May and spent forty-five years devoted to her and their children.
He owned and operated a service gas station, the Pit Stop, in Williamsburg from the early to mid-1980s and Parkin Construction and Remodeling during the 1990s. He retired working in the commercial construction industry.
Cobie was a member of the Williamsburg J.C.’s and the Carpenters, Local 61 Union Kansas City.
He was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting and fishing. He was devoted to the community of Williamsburg and believed in the preservation of its history. Cobie was passionate about nurturing the ties and bonds he had with family and friends. His number one priority was his family and grandchildren whom he taught to hunt and fish while also the importance of being good stewards of the land.
Cobie was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gene Casady.
Along with this wife Mary Ann, survivors include son Chris Parkin (Katie) of Platt City, Missouri; daughter Sarah Nuessen (Tim) of Burlington, Kansas; sister Kathy Doffing (Joe) of Wichita, Kansas; brother Pat Parkin (Pam) of Ottawa, Kansas; seven grandchildren Coburn Parkin, Elizabeth Parkin, Katherine Parkin, John Parkin, Jackson Nuessen, Landon Nuessen, and Logan Nuessen.
