Clyde Berry

Clyde Leland Berry was born March 24, 1912, at Garnett, Kansas. He was the son of George Edward Ed and Harriett Floy (Walker) Berry. A lifelong resident, he made his home in Richmond, Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the age of eighty-nine years. Clyde graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1930. He attended a radio trade school in Chicago, Illinois. He was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed his career and took great pride in his farm. He was a member of Richmond United Methodist Church for over fifty years; served on the Franklin County Farm Bureau Board, serving as president in 1962 and 1963; Richmond Coop Board in the late 1960`s and 1970`s, serving as secretary for eight years during the 1970`s; Berea School Board from 1938 through 1946; Richmond High School Board in the late 1950`s; and, Richmond Township Board for many years. He also served as county assessor in the 1960`s and was recognized with a Kansas Banker`s Award for Soil Conservation in 1982. In addition to his farming and memberships, his greatest enjoyment came from his family and grandchildren and spending time with them. On March 1, 1936, Clyde was united in marriage with Minnie L. Smith at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on April 4, 1985. He is also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Berry. Surviving are two daughters, Arlene Talbott-Swank and her husband, Wayne, of Pomona, Phyllis Donaldson and her husband, Robert, of Topeka; son, Carl Berry and his wife, Elaine, of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kristi Baker, Barbara Ledom, Cynthia Rhodes, Ryan Anderson, Stephanie Reinhardt, and Michael Berry; four step grandchildren, Terry Donaldson, John Donaldson, Shannon Donaldson, Melanie Davis; five great-grandchildren, Curtis Baker, Christopher Baker, Amy Herl, Angela Herl, Shana Ledom; and seven step great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Richmond United Methodist Church, 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Marjorie Cox. IN STATE: Mr. Berry will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary from 2 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9. CEMETERY: Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Kansas.
