Clora Janice Kern, 78, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Thursday, October 31, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Ottawa, Ottawa, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 10-11:00am prior to services. Interment will follow at Ruhamah Cemetery in Rantoul, Kansas.
Janice was born on February 23, 1946 at San Diego, California, the daughter of Earl Kenneth and Helen Marie (Boslaugh) Pennington. Janice and her family resided in Rantoul, Kansas for 70 years, during which Janice attended most of her school years at Rantoul High School but graduated from Lane High School.
On March 7, 1964 Janice married her high school sweetheart and love of her life Lloyd, W. “Bill” Kern, Jr at Rantoul, Kansas. They enjoyed 63 years of life together. He survives of the home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Helen Pennington; grandparents Guy and Esther Boslaugh; daughter Marsha Kay Kern; grandson Michael William (Willie) Clissold; Pless Pennington, Clora Bell Pennington Moeller and Otto Moeller.
Along with her husband Bill, survivors include son, Erick W. Kern (Brenda); daughter Melissa M. Clissold (Michael); sister Judy Pennington; (Harold) granddaughters Ericka Hughes (Taylor), Mychaela Garrett (Denzel); step-granddaughter Lilly Davis; grandsons Seth Kern (Becca), Jason Clissold; step grandson Brad Davis; nephew Kenneth Sobba (Kathy) and niece Terrie Titus (Rick), along with their families.
Janice was a homemaker and loved staying home to raise her children. She was also employed outside the home twenty-five years working as a bookkeeper for the Franklin County RWD # 6, retiring January 31, 2010.
She was a fifty-five-year member of the Ruhamah Baptist Church in Rantoul and then transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Ottawa in 2003. She loved sewing, coloring and painting. Most of all she loved her family. She was crazy about all of her grandkids and was so excited to have a great grandchild on the way. Whatever you were going through Janice could fix it with your favorite pie and her abundance of love. Our wife, mother, grandmother, nanny, great-grandmother, sister, aunt & best friend was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
