Clifford Roger 'Charlie' Brown was born September 11, 1935, in Ottawa, Kansas. He was the son of Ivan Ben and Thelma Fae (Tedrow) Brown. A lifelong resident, he made his home in Ottawa, Kansas, until his death Friday, June 7, 2002, at the age of sixty-six years. Roger graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1953 and also attended real estate school in Lawrence, Kansas. For over thirty years he was a truck driver, pulling mobile homes for several local companies including Bendix, Boise Cascade, and Commodore Homes. From 1992 until his retirement in 1997, he owned and operated A&A Contract Carrier. He was a member of Aerie Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lawrence, and Ottawa Lodge #803, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. On February 20, 1954, Roger was united in marriage with Ernestine Peine. They were later divorced. He was later united in marriage with Gail Milbern. They were also divorced. With him at the time of his death, was his long-time companion, Linda Wilks. Roger enjoyed purchasing old houses and fixing them up as rentals to local families. He had a passion for old cars and restoring them to like-new condition. His greatest enjoyment, however, came from his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his companion, Linda Wilks, of their home; two sons, David R. Brown and his wife, Rhonda, of Ottawa, Kansas, Scott A. Brown and his wife, Sue, of Apopka, Florida; daughter, Cynthia L (Brown) Wilson and her husband, Larry, of Ottawa; two step-sons, Tim Milbern and his wife, Marlene, and Rusty Wilks, both of Ottawa; two step-daughters, Cindy Billings and her fianc', Robert Buehne, and Deanna Milbern both of Ottawa; nine grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ivan W. Brown; and an infant sister, Delores Brown. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Highland Cemetery for graveside services. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Clyde Greisen IN STATE: Mr. Brown will lie in-state after 1:00 p.m. Sunday to the service hour at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, where family will meet with friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday evening.
