Clifford Mart McCurdy was born July 31, 1911, at Williamsburg, Kansas. He was the son of Thomas and Adella (Duffey) McCurdy. A life long Williamsburg resident, Mr. McCurdy made his home there until his death on March 27, 1990 in Kansas City Missouri. As a young man, he worked in the coalmines in the Williamsburg area. For forty-five years he was employed as a machine operator with the Santa Fe Railroad, running the main line from Chicago to LaJunta, Colorado. He retired in 1974. Clifford was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Williamsburg Wildlife Association. He was also an enthusiastic gardener, with a garden that was the envy of others. He was a former Williamsburg City Councilman. On January 28, 1937, Clifford was united in marriage with Sylvia I. Ashburn at Garnett, Kansas. Also surviving are six sons and daughters-in-law, David and Judy McCurdy of Williams burg, Jim and Kay McCurdy of Centropolis, Bill and Susie McCurdy of Williamsburg, Denny and Barbara McCurdy of Burrton, Clifford Dale and Peggy McCurdy of Melvern, Charles McCurdy of Williamsburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Jerry Clark of LaCygne, Sharon and Louis Brown of Ottawa, Carol and Don Prather of Richmond; a sister Violetta McCurdy Clark of Kansas City; seventeen grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by three sons, Stephen Allen McCurdy, who died at birth in 1959; Francis Eugene McCurdy, 1953 - 1954; Thomas Harry McCurdy, 1937 - 1949; a brother Floyd F. McCurdy, who died in 1970; three sisters Ella McCurdy LaMance in 1938; Letha Smith in 1975 and Lela M. O`Mara in 1976. Services: Funeral services were held 2:00pm, Friday, March 30, 1990 at the United Methodist Church, Williamsburg Kansas. Officiant: Rev. James F. Coder Interment, Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas. Dengel & Son Mortuary of Ottawa in charge of arrangements.
