Cletus Hampson

Cletus Gene Hampson, Sr., age 80, of rural Osawatomie, Kansas, died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at his home. Cletus was born at Syracuse, Missouri, on July 19, 1934. He was the older of two sons born to Herbert H. and Alma (Yarnell) Hampson. He graduated from St. John"s High School at Olathe, Kansas with the Class of 1952. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Bruce on April 23, 1954 at Monticello, Kansas. They became the parents of four children. Cletus served his country with the United States Army from 1956 until he was honorably discharged in 1960. He earned the rank of Sergeant. While in the service, he was stationed in Germany where his two sons were born. He served in the reserves for a short period of time after being discharged. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a carman from the Fall of 1952 until he retired in 1990. The family moved from Overland Park, Kansas to their farm at rural Osawatomie where they have resided since 1966. Cletus loved the farm. He had many partnerships in farming and also custom farmed. He enjoyed being a partner in the cow/calf operation at Burrows Ranch. His morning ritual began with meeting his buddies for breakfast. His "Breakfast Club" had been known to visit with each other over several pots of coffee. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Pat of the home; two sons C. Gene Hampson, Jr. (Nancy) of rural Olathe and Dean Hampson (Marcella) of Lane, Kansas; two daughters Tricia Culbertson (Johnny) of rural Lane and Julie Hampson of Seattle, Washington; one brother Bill Hampson of Wellsville; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions are to St. Jude"s Children"s Hospital or Anderson County Hospital.
