Cleta M. Ewing

Cleta M. Ewing, 90, passed away Monday, July 13, 2015, at her home in Ottawa, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa. Family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 17, at Fairview Cemetery in Mildred, Kansas. Cleta was born Wednesday, September 24, 1924 in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of William J. and Cleona Belle (Adams) Stanford. She attended schools in Iola and Gas City, Kansas. Cleta was united in marriage with Everett E. Ewing June 15, 1942, in Garnett, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2002. Cleta and her husband started farming in 1946 north of Bronson, Kansas, until they sold the farm in January 1950 and moved to Iola, Kansas. In 1952, they moved to the Princeton, Kansas, area and to Ottawa, in 1954. She has lived in their current home in Ottawa since 1964. She was a devoted homemaker and also worked twenty years at Mode O Day as a seamstress, eleven years at Parmelee as a mold operator, three years at McDonald’s, and several years cleaning homes in the Ottawa area, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa. Besides her husband, Cleta was preceded in death by her parents; son, William Franklin “Frankie” Ewing; brothers, Robert and Bill Stanford; sisters, Frances Ewing, Deanie Duncan, and infant sister, Betty Louise Stanford. Surviving family members include her three brothers, Johnny Stanford and wife Susan of Newton, Dale Stanford and wife Martha of Thayer, Missouri, and Myron Stanford of Iola; four sisters, Lillian Franklin of Iola, Dorothy Morrison of Pittsburg, Karon Tullo of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Joan Smith of Clute, Texas.
