Claude Delbert Vansickle

Claude Delbert VanSickle was born on Friday, December 12, 1930, in Henry, South Dakota. He was the son of Claude Volney and Mabel Lee (McRoden) VanSickle. Claude lived in South Dakota until joining the Navy. He moved to this area following his military service, where he made his home in Richmond for twenty years and Princeton, in Franklin County, Kansas, from 1989 until his death on Friday, January 13, 2006, at the age of seventy-five years. He attended school in South Dakota and later earned his General Equivalency Diploma. Claude worked as a meat cutter for C & S Market in Eudora, Kansas, from mid-2000 and for Country Mart in Ottawa during the 1990's. From 1970 until 1990, he owned and operated the Richmond Locker Plant in Richmond, Kansas. He served in the United Sates Navy for twenty years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Princeton Christian Church and Williamsburg/Ottawa Wildlife. He also actively served on the Richmond City Council. Claude was deeply devoted to his family and greatly enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed hunting, caring for his dogs, eating out, watching Jayhawk Basketball, and drinking coffee with his many friends. On February 21, 1989, Claude was united in marriage with Wynona L. Kirkland in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his two sons, Chris VanSickle of Richmond, Wayland D. Kirkland, Jr. of Placerville, California; three daughters, Laura D. Hermreck and her husband, Terry, of Richmond, Laurinda L. Pearson and her husband, Randy, of Richmond, Wanda Smith and her husband, Mark, of Ottawa; two brothers, David Lee VanSickle of Chicago, Illinois, Brian VanSickle of St. Louis, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, Tanner VanSickle, Wyatt VanSickle, Jeremy Moore, Carmen Torbus, Casie Pearson, Coby Joe Pearson, Tyler Smith, Sarah Smith, Karah Williams, Alex Kirkland, D.J. Hermreck, and Lauren Hermreck. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lynn Phipps; brother, Alan VanSickle; and granddaughter, Kirsten VanSickle. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2006. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. VanSickle at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Sunday until the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary 235 S. Hickory in Ottawa, Ks 66067.
