Claude Beldon 'Bud' Fouts was born October 18, 1915, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Lyman C. and Phelena B. (Adams) Fouts. A near lifelong resident, he made his home in Franklin County, until his death Friday, February 1, 2002, at the age of eighty-six years. Bud attended Ottawa High School with the class of 1933. He was an expert Horologist, working with watches until shortly after World War II. He was also a paint chemist, working with paints for approximately eighteen years. He served with the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church in Ottawa. Bud enjoyed making jewelry to give as gifts and also enjoyed collecting gold coins. On February 7, 1947, Bud was united in marriage with Shirley Ann Yockey at Ottawa. They later divorced. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Ann Carpenter of Elko, Nevada; son, Wendell Neal Harris and his wife, Nora, of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Loren D. Fouts of Boise, Idaho; sister, Norma Howard of Ottawa; four grandchildren; and, two great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edwin D. Fouts, Lynn C. Fouts; and, sister, Alice Maxwell. SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2002, at Fouts Cemetery in Franklin County. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Kent Melcher. IN STATE: Mr. Fouts will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 8:00 a.m. Thursday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 6 to 7:00 Thursday evening.
