Clarence Mitchell Mitch Barnes was born on Sunday, November 14, 1948, in Garden City, Kansas. He was the son of Phillip Roy Barnes and Juanita Rose (Poarch) Barnes-Thompson. A lifelong Kansas resident, Mitch lived most of his life in the Lawrence, Garnett and Ottawa areas. He made his home in Pomona, Franklin County, Kansas, until his death on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the age of sixty-one years. He attended school in Scranton, Carbondale, and Lawrence, and graduated from Lecompton High School. He received a degree in mechanics from Kansas Vocational Technical School in Topeka, Kansas. A self-employed carpenter, he owned Mitch’s Old Homestead Repair of Kansas City, Missouri. In January of 1977, Mitch was united in marriage with Linda Sue Croney in West Plains, Missouri. They were later divorced. In 1981, Mitch was united in marriage with Beulah in Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 14, 1995. He is also preceded in death by his father, Phillip Roy Barnes; and sister, Paula Jeanan Sitlington. Mitch is survived by his: mother, Juanita Rose Thompson of Pomona, Kansas; two sons, Michael Roy Barnes of Texas, Jeremy W. Mitchell Barnes and his wife, Kim, of West Plains, Missouri; daughter, Sherry Lynn Barnes of Cherokee, Kansas; four sisters, Carol Martin of Lawrence, Kansas, Vickey Lynn Thompson of Ottawa, Kansas, Lori Leota Cantrall of Waverly, Kansas, Robin Renea Williams of Garnett, Kansas; three brothers, Roy Keith Barnes of Kingsville, Missouri, Ronald Thomas Thompson of Topeka, Kansas, Jonathan Bruce Thompson of Asheville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Allie Barnes, Maci Barnes, Wyatt Barnes, all of West Plains, Missouri; three additional grandchildren; five stepchildren; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Family will meet with friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 8, 2010, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date.
