Clarence “Del or Sonny” Everett Dellinger Jr. passed away peacefully on the morning of July 18, 2024 in Cassville, MO.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the First Christian Church of Louisburg, 602 N 1st Street, Louisburg, Kansas 66053. Masonic funeral rites will take place at 6:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 24, 2024, also at the church. Burial to follow at the Louisburg Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Louisburg VFW post 7348 and American Legion post 250.
Clarence was born March 30, 1931 to Clarence Everett Dellinger Sr. and Cora Elizabeth Glazebrook in Kansas City, MO. He spent his early years at their family home at 39 Cambridge in Kansas City, MO.
On April 30, 1960, he and Alice L. Shaw were married in Kansas City, MO. They lived in Overland Park, KS until moving to Louisburg, KS in 1971. They remained in Louisburg until 1995 when they moved to Eagle Rock, MO until Alice’s death in 2002. In November 2004, Clarence married Bette J. Wiersema and they lived in Eagle Rock until 2020 when moving to Cassville, MO.
Clarence proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Korea with the 39th Fighter Squadron in 1951. After his military service, he continued to make significant contributions to his community and country through his work with the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) from 1957 to 1967 and later with the General Services Administration (GSA) from 1967 to 1986. Some of his many notable projects were Topeka Federal Building, complete build of Post Offices, new build of Court House in Cape Girardeau, MO. Of significant importance to him was the remodel of President Truman's Library in Independence, MO.
Clarence was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Louisburg, where his faith and community involvement were central to his life. He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. Clarence thoroughly enjoyed playing the trumpet in the Abdallah Shrine Band in Kansas City and then later with the Fossils in Shell Knob, MO. Clarence was also a member of the First Christian Church of Berryville, MO.
Clarence never met a stranger and loved talking to anyone, especially over a cup of coffee at Blair House in Louisburg or The Office in Eagle Rock. His warm and friendly nature made everyone feel welcome, and his stories and conversations will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and classic cars, hobbies that brought him much joy and relaxation.
Clarence will be remembered for his dedication, hard work, and the love he had for his family and his country. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence and Cora Dellinger, his brother, Eugene, and his late wife, Alice. He leaves Bette, his wife; his beloved children, David (Jackie) of Louisburg, KS, Jan; five grandchildren, Alaina Hunt, Erica Pinneo, Zachary Myers, Lauren Myers and Kaeleigh Williamson; and 6 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and may other relatives and friends.
