Clara Marie Bauer, age 92, died at home in Drexel, MO, on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 27, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Louisburg with burial to follow in St. Mary"s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Louisburg Chapel, with a Rosary held at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Edie Bauer Memorial Scholarship Fund. She was the eldest of 12 children. Clara attended the Ursuline Academy in Paola, KS. Her family moved to the Louisburg, KS area in the 1930s. Clara Marie Strausbaugh and Lawrence Joseph Bauer were united in marriage June 20, 1939. They were blessed with two sons, Albert Eugene and Lawrence Edward. They lived near Paola and then moved to Louisburg. They farmed east and south of Louisburg for 27 years. In 1969, they moved into town and remained there throughout their 38 years of married life. Clara was a cook at Blairhouse in Louisburg for several years. In 2007, Clara moved to Drexel, MO. Clara was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Louisburg. She loved the church and was a member of the Alter Society. Clara was also a Gold Star Mother in the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to work in her flowers and visit family and friends. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 1977; one son, Lawrence Edward in 1969; one sister, Dena Jane Jennings; three brothers, Albert, Bernard, and Tom Strausbaugh. Survivors include one son, Albert Eugene and wife Anita of Drexel, MO; three sisters, Rosemary Courtney of Elbert, CO, Virginia Giarraputo of Kansas City, MO, and Carol Mills of Harrisonville, MO; four brothers, Joe Strausbaugh of Gladstone, MO, Don Strausbaugh of Overland Park, KS, Gerald Strausbaugh of Paola, KS, and Jerry Strausbaugh of Maple Hill, KS; two grandchildren, James Bauer of Kansas City, KS, and Kristine Bock of Lee"s Summit, MO; two step-grandchildren, Wendi Dooley of Harrisonville, MO, and Rusty Craft of Butler, MO; three great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
