Christie E. Schell

February 11, 1969 — February 24, 2017

Christie E. Schell, age 48 of Louisburg, KS, passed away at her home February 24, 2017. Christie was born in Kansas City, Mo, February 11, 1969, the daughter of Dennis and Jeanne Kern Schell. She attended DeSoto Elementary School, kindergarten through fourth grade, which is where she learned to ride horses. She went on to attend the Blue Jacket Grade School and Hocker Grove Middle School in Shawnee, KS. She attended Shawnee Mission North High School and Johnson County Community College. She lived in Shawnee from 1979 to 2004, and then moved to Louisburg, Kansas, with her family to purchase a farm so she and her mom could enjoy taking care of their horses. Christie loved showing her horses over the years and won hundreds of ribbons and several special awards, including an award at the National Arabian Horse Show in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1985 and a Regional Championship in Des Moines, Iowa in 1989. Of all the numerous horses Christie owned in her life, her special one was D.R. RaLao "RIO" who died too soon. As a young girl growing up in Shawnee, she and her best friend Stephanie (Taylor) Rymer, who lived just two houses away, were inseparable from fifth grade through high school. I am sure Stephanie could tell us many stories about their adventures that parents should never find out about. Stephanie went on many vacations with us as a companion to Christie so she wouldn"t get in trouble with her brother Danny. Christie was a loving and caring person who always strived to be a better daughter and friend, her laugh was infectious to everyone she came in contact with. She was passionate about every single horse she owned but her greatest love was for her horse "RIO". She got the horse gene early, riding and showing horses almost all of her life until she was unable to ride anymore due to health reasons. She was preceded in death by two aunts, Nancy White and Charlene Gardner, two uncles, Larry E. Schell and Roy C. Kern III. Christie is survived by her parents, Dennis and Jeanne Schell, and younger brother Dan Schell all from Louisburg, KS; half-sister, Elaine Richter, two half-brothers, Darin and Bart Richter of Denver, CO, aunt's, Mary Ann Schell, Beverly Hill (Kenny), Lindy Bates (Don), Uncle, Jack Kern (Connie) numerous cousins and we can"t leave out Christie"s dog Lucy a Jack Russell Terrier, who was a loving constant companion to her. Christie"s greatest regret in life was having to give up showing her horses, never finding the right person in her life and having children. She loved kids and had an empty hole in her heart that she was never able to fill. Christie favorite saying was "March to the beat of your own drum, follow your heart and speak your mind, no regrets, a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll."
