Christian Rudolph “Chris” Krueger, Jr., was born on Monday, April 21, 1924, in Richmond, Kansas. He was the son of Christian Paul and Sally Ann (Schroedter) Krueger. Chris was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, and made his home in Ottawa, until his death on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at the age of eighty-six years. He graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1943. Chris served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Ottawa forty-seven years, retiring in the mid 1980’s. Prior to working for the Post Office, he was employed at Montgomery Ward. Following his retirement, he worked at Wal-Mart in the garden center and sporting goods department. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa. Chris was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family and visiting with his many friends. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed farming until 2009. He also enjoyed woodworking in his shop. On Thursday, February 6, 1947, Chris was united in marriage with Doris Strickland in Garnett, Kansas. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his son, Robert “Bob” Krueger and his wife, LaDean, of Wellsville, Kansas; two daughters, Carolyn Gross of Overbrook, Kansas, Christie Polin and her husband, Ray, of Grandview, Missouri; two sisters, Peggy Wright of Paola, Kansas, Betty Corwine of Ottawa, Kansas; grandson, Christopher Michael “Mike” Hughes; and granddaughter, Donna (Krueger) Arnaud. He is preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Judy Kelly, Ann Bruntz, Marie McCullough and Clara Conner. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010. Cremation will follow. IN STATE: Mr. Krueger will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends from 2:00 to 3:00 Sunday afternoon. INURNMENT: Inurnment Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
