Charlotte Raby

Charlotte Raby, 70, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, at Olathe Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 16, 2014. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Raby, at the mortuary, after 9:00 A.M., Thursday, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. Charlotte was born on Friday, June 11, 1943 in Pomona, Kansas, the daughter of John O. and Lottie V. (Carter) Love. She lived in Pomona for seventeen years, moving to Ottawa in 1960. She graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1961. On November 22, 1960 Charlotte was united in marriage with James H. Raby, Sr. in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Raby; and her parents. Survivors include her two sons, James H. Raby, Jr. and wife Betty of Richmond; and Christopher S. Raby and wife Kelly of Ottawa; five grandchildren, Bridger, Jeremy, Amanda, Mykenna, and Camille Raby; two great grandchildren, Kadance and Dominic Raby; and siblings, Kenneth Burgoon and wife Jackie of Junction City; Alvin “Butch” Burgoon and wife Jean of Topeka; Linda Love of Ottawa; and Thomas Love and wife Judy of Ottawa. Charlotte worked at UPS, as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1995. She then began working for Trinity United Methodist Church, as a secretary/bookkeeper, for two years and became the pastor for eight years; pastor of Greeley United Methodist Church; and later returned to Trinity United Methodist as the associate pastor. She was a fifty year member of the Union Chapter #15, Order of the Eastern Star (past Worthy Matron); former member of Ottawa Assembly #306, Social Order of the Beauceant (past President); licensed local pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church and the God Squad Bible Study.
