Charles Robert “Bob” Horne, 83, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Vassar Cemetery, Vassar, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2021, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Bob was born on June 17, 1937, in rural Melvern, Kansas, the son of Arnel D. Horne and Hattie L. (Mietchen) Horne. For 35 years, Bob lived in Princeton, moving in 1995 to Vassar. Bob moved to Ottawa in November 2019 where he made his home for the last year. He attended schools in Melvern, Waverly and Ottawa. Bob was united in marriage to Patricia Underwood August 3, 1957, at Ottawa. They were happily married 63 years having four children, Nancy, Deb, Tim, and Steve. Bob was employed with Boise Cascade Trailer Manufacturing as a cabinet supervisor from the 1960’s to 1970’s; Berico Manufacturing in Waverly, as a shipping supervisor from the mid-1970’s to the early 1980’s; Happy Trails Chuck Wagon where he served at auctions, tractor & car shows, and town festivals from 1987 to 2017; and Ned Hiatt Camper Sales in Pomona, as a camper repair technician during the 1990’s. He was a member of the Power of the Past Antique Engine and Tractor Assoc., and the Acorn community in Princeton and Acorn 4-H Club, where he was the woodworking project leader. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Vassar. Bob enjoyed Bluegrass music, fishing, camping at Pomona Lake, and roasting hot dogs. He always looked forward to family gatherings and loved the time spent together with family and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gary Horne and Arnel “Gene” Horne. Survivors include his wife Patricia of the home; four children, Nancy (Randy) Mitchell of Schofield, Wisconsin, Deb Horne of Ottawa, Tim (Angie) Horne of Baldwin City, and Steve Horne of Ottawa; two sisters, Janice Thomas of Ottawa, and Terry (Gail) McFadden of Lawrence; six grandchildren, Ivan (Leslie) Mitchell, Scott Mitchell, Ashley Mitchell, Kaleb (Clare) Horne, Ethan Horne and fiancé Myriah Pippert, and Colton (Hannah) Horne; and eight great grandchildren.
